Civil Engineering Department started functioning from the Academic Year 2010. Present intake in First Year is 120 Students. Department has well equipped laboratories catering to the needs of the course curriculum of the affiliating University. Dedicated and Qualified Faculty are one of the Assets of the Department.
To become a leader in the field of civil engineering by imparting quality education, developing employable and competent manpower by conducting research and consultancy along with skill based training.
Graduates will have ability to identify, describe, analyze and solving problem using mathematics, systematic problem- solving techniques and comprehensive knowledge in all domains of civil engineering to obtain optimal solutions in planning, designing and executions of complex civil engineering problems.
Graduates will have ability to understand and develop a new system which uses renewable, green and other modern technology to meet prevailing trends for benefit of the society.
Graduates will have ability to use prevailing tools, means, software, platform and scenario for searching innovative and creative initiatives to become and entrepreneur and impart as a resourceful component in infrastructure developments process.
Department has established the following Laboratories:
These laboratories are well equipped with latest and State-of-Art Facilities. Periodic expert lectures/Technical visits are aimed at enriching the comprehension level of students.
The objective of surveying laboratory is to make student familiar and competent enough to draw map in suitable scale by using different surveying instruments like total station, theodolite, auto level, global positioning system (GPS), geographical information system (GIS), electromagnetic distance measurement (EDM), plane table, compass, etc. Students learn to survey from conventional as well as contemporary methods and technology. Our Surveying labs provide students with hands-on experience using common surveying equipment.
The objective of this laboratory is to determine the various parameters related to fluid flow in pipes and in open channels. At present it is equipped with hydraulic benches & various stand-alone equipment to carry out experiments like determination of metacentric height of a floating vessel, verification of the Bernoulli’s energy equation, study of transition from laminar to turbulent flow, determination of velocity profile for pipeline flow, determination of coefficient of discharge for obstruction flow meter(venturimeter/orifice meter), determination of discharge coefficient for various notches, determination of hydraulic coefficients for flow through an orifice.
The laboratory of transportation engineering in the civil department is well equipped with all the required instruments and equipment that are helpful in the overall understanding and practical knowledge of a student. We have all the instruments such as Marshall Stability, and we are proud that we are one of the very few colleges that provide this facility. Apart from this we also have enough other instruments such as CBR, Los angles abrasion instrument, etc. we believe in the fact that only bookish knowledge is not enough for the overall understanding of our students. So our pedagogy includes every measure that impacts practical knowledge and carries out all the tests required for complete understanding of the subject.
The testing and inspection of concrete and concrete aggregates are important elements in obtaining quality construction. The laboratory allows students test to assess the various fresh and hardened concrete properties that may affect the performance of concrete members. There many apparatus and machines available at the concrete technology lab like Sieve Shaker, Compressive testing machine, Slump Cone Testing apparatus, Flexure Testing Machine, Compaction Factor Apparatus, Heat of Hydration apparatus, Permeability apparatus etc.
The Structural Engineering Laboratory at Oriental college of Technology, Bhopal serves a wide spectrum of activities covering those related to teaching, research, development, and consultancy. The primary activities include experimental studies on model/prototype of structural elements and assemblies under various static and dynamic loading conditions.
With the available test area, state-of-the-art load/displacement-controlled equipment for load application, precision instrumentation, , the laboratory represents a unique facility for large and full scale investigation of the load-deformation behaviour of structures including their post-peak strength and deformability up to the failure.
Application of basic chemistry and chemical calculations to measure physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters of water and wastewater. Laboratory methods and interpretation of results with regard to environmental engineering applications such as design and operation of water and wastewater treatment processes, and to the control of the quality of natural water.
The objective of Geotech Lab is to understand the laboratory tests used for determination of physical, index and Engineering properties of soil.
The objective of this Lab is to teach users the basic commands and tools necessary for professional 2D drawing, design and drafting using AutoCAD & Load Analysis using Staddpro. After completing this course users will be able to: Use AutoCAD for daily working process. Navigate throughout AutoCAD using major navigating tools. Understand the concept and techniques to draw. Create multiple designs using several of tools. Create layers to control the objects’ visibility. Explain drawing using annotations.
