Oriental Institute of Science and Technology has tied up with IIT, Mumbai to become the Free Open Source Software (FOSS) club and centre of excellence for the region. The FOSS Centre was inaugurated by Prof Shyama Iyer from IIT, Mumbai and the Chairman of Oriental Group of Institutes, Shri Praveen Thakral . Ms Iyer is an MBA graduate from Illinois, Chicago and has been a part of many coveted events like the World Education Summit. She is currently the National head of the FOSSEE project, IIT, Mumbai. The FOSSEE (Free and Open Source Software in Education) project is part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. The Project is extremely beneficial for students and budding researchers as it gives them the opportunity to work on high end free software to conceptualize their designs and projects. More than 6000 students from the Institute have already enrolled for the courses that will be run in the FOSS centre in association with IIT, Mumbai. The Centre has state of the art facilities with 3 fully equipped labs all running on Linux OS. Prof Shyama Iyer gave a detailed presentation to Staff and Students regarding the advantages of FOSS tools over proprietary software and was very happy to see the level of facilities and the enthusiasm of students about these Trainings.

Commencement of B. Tech. First Year Session 2019-20 is on 19th August. 2019.
The Orientation program of newly admitted B.Tech students is on 19th August. 2019 .
Parents are cordially invited with the students for Orientation program.
Students have to report sharp at 10 AM.
